Setting up a Computer with Omni Software

CHOOSING A PC: Omni software may be installed on a dedicated PC or it can be multitasked with other applications.

DEDICATED PC: Many of our customers assign a ‘surplus’ dedicated PC to Omni. If you plan to run Omni on a dedicated PC, we recommend Windows XP for maximum reliability.

MULTITASKED PC: If you plan to run Omni on a PC that runs other applications, a more powerful computer should be used. Remember that the audio will be used by Omni 100% of the time, so, please choose a PC on which sound is not being used for other applications. Some users have installed Omni on their server with good results.

CONNECTION TO PHONE SYSTEM: Omni outputs a continuous audio stream that is connected to the Music-On-Hold input of your telephone system or ARU (or both). Simply connect an audio cable from the Audio Out of the soundcard to the Music-On-Hold input of the phone system. Some customers have sucessfully used a spare pair in their Cat5 wiring to route the audio signal to the phone switch from a distant office. In this case, audio is spliced into the Cat5 at the PC location, and punched down or otherwise terminated to the Music-On-Hold port at the switch thus eliminating a new wire pull.

LAN/INTERNET CONNECTION: A network connection is not required, however, it is strongly suggested. New messages are downloaded from our website at www.omnidigital.com so Internet access is a plus. A connection to the corporate LAN enables the system to be controlled remotely from any other PC on the LAN using a remote access application such as VNC. This can be helpful if the person assigned to Omni matters is a large distance from the PC running the Omni application.

SOFTWARE

The Omni application is only available from our website. Once the hardware is in place, installation of the software takes just a few minutes. If the PC has an Internet connection, the process is simplified.

After we receive your signed Service Agreement, we will setup your account on our webserver. You’ll be assigned a Customer Code and a Password. Using these, you can LOG IN and download the software and the license to activate it.

  1. Go to www.omnidigital.com and click the Software link. Fill out the download request form and download the install file (omni4_su.exe) onto your local harddrive.
  2. After we have activated your web account, you may Log In using your Customer Code and Password. At the upper right of your account page, you can click the link to generate a new license. After the license is assembled, click the Download button and save the license file (lic_yourpassword.exe) to your local harddrive.
  3. To install the software, double-click the Omni installation file on your harddrive(omni4_su.exe). Take all the defaults.
  4. After installation finishes, you will need to run the license file. Locate the license file on your harddrive and double click it. Choose UnZip to write the license file to c:\omni4.
  5. To start the Omni program, go to Start/Programs/Omni4 and click on the Omni (not minimized) icon. This will bring up the Omni 4.0 screen.
  6. Go to Tools/Configure, then File Type. Choose WAV and click Apply. MP3 files are smaller but are more complex and require more computer power to play. We recommend using .WAV files.
  7. Go to Tools/Configure, then Settings. Specify the directory in which you will put your downloaded messages. For simplicity, just configure C:\OMNI4 and always put your downloaded message file there.
  8. Under Startup, click YES to auto-start with Windows. Click Apply. Close the Settings window.
  9. Read The Help File - You can find answers to questions about the operation of the program.
  10. Finally, Download Your Current Messages! Go to www.omnidigital.com, LOG IN using your password. See the next section for more detailed instructions on downloading new messages.

DOWNLOADING AND IMPORTING MESSAGES FROM THE INTERNET

  1. Connect to the Internet with your browser and go to www.omnidigital.com
  2. LOG IN using your Customer Code and Password to access your account and messages. To expand/collapse a Category, click the +/- box. Use the Order New link to access the Production Request Form. Use the Delete Old link to remove messages that you no longer want listed in your Customized category. Any scripts that you submit for production will show up in your Customized category. As long as there is a paper/pencil icon displayed, you may click it and edit the script. Once we send the script to the announcer for voicing this option goes away and the icon changes to the normal script icon. The play button turns blue when the message comes out of production and is available to hear and download.
  3. You may check/uncheck messages, across all categories, until you get the ones you want included in your download. When finished selecting, click 'Show My Selections' at the top of the page.
  4. The Preview page shows all of the messages that you have chosen. You may rearrange the playback order by using UP/DN buttons. You may check all of the messages, or certain ones, and click the Preview button to listen to the checked messages one after another ... as they will sound on your phone system. And, you can checkmark the boxes under the Script button to print out the selected scripts. When finished, click Zip for Download and your files are zipped into one file for you to download and then load into your Omni playback software.
  5. You will be prompted that you are ready to download a file and the filesize will be displayed under the Download button. Click the Download button and select a directory on your computer to store the file.
  6. After the download is complete, disconnect from the Internet and close your browser
  7. Right click the Omni logo in your system tray (lower right of your screen). Left click ‘Edit Playlist’.
  8. Click the Load button. Browse to the directory where you stored the downloaded file Highlight the file, click on the GO button and follow the prompts.
